Статья посвящена оценкам личности Главнокомандующего красными армиями Северного Кавказа Ивана Лукича Сорокина в воспоминаниях современников. В советской исторической литературе И.Л. Сорокин рассматривался как предатель и изменник делу революции, иной взгляд на его деяния был попросту невозможен. В современной российской историографии деятельность Сорокина рассматривается более осторожно, его предательство и пособничество белым не находит документального подтверждения, напротив, историки предлагают видеть в Иване Лукиче настоящего народного вожака и талантливого полководца, преждевременная гибель которого предопределила победу Деникина на Северном Кавказе. В настоящей статье особый акцент делается на привлечении архивных материалов из архивохранилищ Краснодарского края, прежде не использованных в работах специалистов. Автор отмечает противоречивость фигуры Ивана Сорокина, отмечая вместе с тем его крупные природные военные способности, позволившие ему превратиться в 1918 г. в полководца-самоучку крупного масштаба. Вспыльчивость и несдержанность, отсутствие какого-либо интереса к политике, а также отсутствие рядом с ним серьезного партийного руководства не позволили Сорокину разобраться в хитросплетениях тогдашней политики. Анализ высказываний современников позволяет прийти к выводу о наличии у Сорокина военных талантов, огромной харизмы и силы воли, сочетавшихся с вспыльчивостью, неуравновешенностью и известного рода нарциссизмом. Резкий карьерный взлет, произошедший с ним в 1918 г., вскружил Сорокину голову, предопределив его трагическую гибель. Расправа над Сорокиным сыграла важнейшую роль в исходе военной кампании 1918 г., позволив Деникину переломить исход противостояния с красными Северного Кавказа в свою пользу.

Abstract

The article is devoted to assessments of the personality of the Commander-in-Chief of the Red Armies of the North Caucasus, Ivan Lukich Sorokin, in the memoirs of his contemporaries. In Soviet historical literature, I.L. Sorokin was viewed as a traitor and traitor to the cause of the revolution. Any other view of his actions was simply impossible. In modern Russian historiography, Sorokin’s activities are viewed more cautiously; his betrayal and complicity with the Whites does not find documentary evidence. On the contrary, historians propose to see in Ivan Lukich a real people’s leader and a talented commander, whose premature death predetermined Denikin’s victory in the North Caucasus. In this article, special emphasis is placed on the use of archival materials from the archives of the Krasnodar Territory, which have not previously been used in the works of specialists. The author notes the inconsistency of the figure of Ivan Sorokin, noting at the same time his great natural military abilities, which allowed him to turn into a self-taught commander on a large scale in 1918. His temper and lack of restraint, the lack of any interest in politics, as well as the absence of serious party leadership next to him, did not allow Sorokin to understand the intricacies of the politics of that time. An analysis of the statements of his contemporaries allows us to come to the conclusion that Sorokin had military talents, enormous charisma and willpower, combined with temper, instability and a certain kind of narcissism. The sharp career rise that happened to him in 1918 turned Sorokin’s head, predetermining his tragic death. The reprisal against Sorokin played a crucial role in the outcome of the military campaign of 1918, allowing Denikin to turn the outcome of the confrontation with the Reds of the North Caucasus in his favour.
