Изучение исторической географии феодальных владений Дагестана представляет собой одну из актуальных задач кавказоведения, позволяя реконструировать сложную картину политического и социально-экономического развития региона. Территория майсумства в рассматриваемое время располагалась на стыке владений народов Дагестана и Азербайджана, что предопределило полиэтничный состав его населения, включавшего табасаран, лезгин и азербайджанцев. Границы владения не были статичными и изменялись под воздействием как внутренних междоусобиц, так и внешнего давления со стороны крупных держав — Ирана, Турции и России. Ключевым событием, повлиявшим на административно-политическое устройство края, стал произошедший ранее раскол единого майсумства на две части — собственно майсумство и кадийство, что привело к формированию своеобразной системы двоевластия. Несмотря на это, правитель — майсум — сохранял за собой функции верховного администратора, военачальника и судьи, опираясь на поддержку беков, управлявших отдельными уделами. Анализ исторических сведений позволяет заключить, что в XVIII — начале XIX в. Табасаранское майсумство представляло собой типичное для Дагестана феодальное владение со сложной социальной структурой и развитыми аграрными отношениями, основанными на различных формах земельной собственности. Данный период стал важным этапом в эволюции Табасаранского майсумства, когда отчетливо проявились как внутренние закономерности его социально-политического развития, так и воздействие внешних факторов геополитического характера.

The study of the historical geography of the feudal domains of Dagestan is one of the important areas of Caucasian studies, making it possible to reconstruct the complex political and socio-economic development of the region. During the period under consideration, the territory of the Maisumate was situated at the intersection of the domains inhabited by the peoples of Dagestan and Azerbaijan, which predetermined the multi-ethnic composition of its population, including Tabasarans, Lezgins and Azerbaijanis. The boundaries of the domain were not static and changed under the influence of both internal conflicts and external pressure from the major powers of Iran, Turkey and Russia. A key event affecting the administrative and political structure of the region was the earlier division of the unified Maisumate into two parts — the Maisumate proper and the Qadiate — which resulted in the formation of a distinctive system of dual authority. Despite this division, the Maisum, as ruler, retained the functions of supreme administrator, military commander and judge, relying on the support of beks who governed individual appanages. An analysis of the historical evidence indicates that in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries the Tabasaran Maisumate was a typical feudal domain of Dagestan, characterised by a complex social structure and developed agrarian relations based on various forms of land ownership. This period was an important stage in the evolution of the Tabasaran Maisumate, when both the internal patterns of its socio-political development and the impact of external geopolitical factors became particularly evident.
